HTMLThumbnail creates index pages of the graphic file content of directories on Unix based web servers. It generates real thumbnail images (not just mis-sizing the images) that are typically around 1-2% of the byte count of the originals (thus letting you see them 50 - 100 times as fast). It works with both JPEG and GIF images, supports 'incremental change' updating to allow easy adding of new images (or modifying of old ones) without wasting a lot of time regenerating the index for every image. It also supports optional linking to the original images, drop shadows, rotation of the final icon, and image borders. Essentially all setting are command line adjustable.

WebMagick recurses through directory trees, building HTML pages, imagemap files, and client-side/server-side maps (or HTML tables) to allow the user to navigate through collections of thumbnail images (somewhat similar to xv's Visual Schnauzer) and select the image to view with a mouse click. In fact, WebMagick supports reading and writing xv's image thumbnails so it can be used in conjunction with xv. WebMagick can also allow the user to configure their viewing experience by choosing layout styles (requires cookies and JavaScript).

IDS (Image Display System) is a CGI written in Perl that interactively generates a photo album website. All you need to provide are the images and (optionally) text descriptions. As you add new pictures, they will appear automatically. Each image will be displayed with information such as image type, file size, image size, and date uploaded. If EXIF information is embedded in the image (shutter speed, aperture, focal length, etc.), it will be displayed. It will create thumbnail images for JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and GIF images. It can be configured to display icons for any other type of file. IDS uses HTML template sets called "themes." This allows you and, optionally, your visitors, to change the look of your site on the fly. You can create your own themes.
