Free search script for small sites. It is similar to Perl script RiSearch, but not all it's features are implemented yet. Features: Does not require database backend for index storage. Template driven output. Indexing via the local filesystem or via http. Simple and convenient query language. Script uses platform independent binary files which can be used on any system. Therefore, it is possible to index local copy of your site on your home computer under Windows, and then use produced files on remote server.

iSearch is a tool for allowing visitors to a website to perform a search on the contents of the site. Unlike other such tools the spidering engine is written in PHP, so it does not require binaries to be run on the server to generate the search index. Features: Spider engine written in PHP - there are no binaries to run on the server. Runs in PHP safe mode. Performs simple page match scoring and ranking. Can spider subdomains or multiple domains. Allows multiple spider entry points. Versitle page inclusion/exclusion. Parts of pages (e.g. menus) can be excluded from indexing. Can generate a site map automatically from the search index. Auto Spider feature ensures that your search index is kept up-to-date automatically, even if you cannot run "cron" jobs on your web server.

This is a relatively simple script that allows you to search a SWISH-E index using the SWISH-E 1.X.X Binary and PHP3. OK, granted, it offers vastly more complex searches than something like Altavista; however, I still consider it fairly simple in terms of real searching power. Limit searches to Head, Title, Body, Heading(H#), Emphasis, and Comment. This feature can be disabled via config option. Display specified meta tag contents. You may disable this in the config. Multiple indices available via drop-down select box. Indices are specified in a configuration array. Max number of hits via drop-down select box. 10, 50, 100, 500 are available. You can add your own quite easily by editing a configuration array. Prints date-time the index was last updated. Time required to complete search is printed at the bottom of the results page. This is mandatory for the moment. Four levels of debugging available via config option. This is set to level 2 by default. This will save you the trouble of setting it to level 2 when the script doesn't work right for your first test run. (Ain't I an optimist?) You should set debug to level 0 (disable) before making the script public. Seperate configuration file.

Wordindex is a full text indexing suite developed using perl as the backend and PHP as the web based search utility. Any language can be used to search as long as it has access to MySQL databases. Wordindex is capable of indexing huge amounts of data, one production system has indexed over 14GB of textual, PDF, and compressed text files. Searches on that system are still less than a second on a modest server. Wordindex is clusterable, the indexing process which can take a very long time to complete on a huge dataset (meaning ~10G+) can be run over a couple nodes to spread out the load.

Zoom is a package for web developers that allows you to easily add a search function to your web site. This solution has the following advantages over other solutions: This solution doesn’t depend on an external web site to index your pages. There is no advertising served up with the search results. (Except a link to the Zoom home page which can be hidden.) The search itself is very fast as all the pages are pre indexed. You can use your own template HTML page for search results. It can work well with web pages built using FrontPage.
