The Project:  To create a metal ball

Adobe Photoshop 5.5 version

Sometimes you need a little something different.  Well that is what this tutorial is all about.  This tutorial will help you create a metal ball that can be used for many things.  If you don't want to bother with the tutorial you can always download the action by clicking here!

Lets start off with by creating a new image which is 4 inches by 4 inches and 72 dpi

Image 9-1

Now click the Marquee Tool and choose the circle.  Make a selection that fills most of the image, like the image in Image 9-1  Now click the New Layer button on the Layers Palette.

Image 9-2

Click the Gradient Tool and choose Radial Gradient.  Change the colors to those similar to Image 9-2 and click ok.  With the Radial Gradient tool selected, click the upper left hand corner of your circle selection and drag to the lower right.  This should create a highlighted ball look.

Image 9-3

Click the New Layer button on the Layers Palette. Click M or click the Marquee tool.  Choose the Elliptical Marquee and create a circle surrounding the highlight part of the ball.  Now click L or click the Lasso Tool and create a shape similar to the one in Image 9-3.  Make sure your Foreground color is white and click Alt and Backspace.  This will fill the selections with white.

Image 9-4

Click Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and choose 20 as the Radius and click ok.  You now have a Metal Ball like in Image 9-4.
