Thanks for sharing this code. It's what I was looking for -- I don't usually do ASP, and don't have great ASP skills, but was under the gun to do something quickly. The page I developed runs well on my dev machine, but when I run it on another server, I get the error:
VB Script compilation error 800a03ea
pointing to the line:
Set db_ObjSHA1 = New clsSHA1
-----------------^
Some difference in environment, IIS version, other?

The closest you can come is to hash your string and see if it matches the hash that the client provides. I.E. Client supplies hash of password. You have/create a hash value of the users password in your database. You compare the two and see if they match.

In addition to this, I would recommend searching for the "Highly Secure Authentication (Updated)" code in the ASP/VBScript world by searching for "MD5": it implements authen. by hashing a random seed in with the password. Very cool. 5 globes

The SHA-1 code working fine for my english site, until I change my site to utf-8 (unicode).
After I set <%@ CodePage=65001 %>, The result is a bit unstable. Sometime it can generate correct SHA-1, sometime it cann't.

I am using IIS v5.1, on a English WinXP.
For english website, it works like a charm. However for UTF-8 site, it shows a bit unstable. It will give a different number for the 1st time u trigger it, and then after refresh, change to another one. I dont know why.
After I use ASPEncrypt component from Persits, the problem solve. So I am sure there is some problem on IIS parsing the code. The error msg regarding CByte occurs once when i tried to use it on utf site :)
Anyway you have done a good job!
